CODE OF CONDUCT IN PLACES OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN TURKEY

To enhance your experience and preserve the areas of cultural heritage in Turkey for future generations, please follow the rules below.

CODE OF CONDUCT IN NATURAL AREAS

Nature tours are organized activities aimed at exploring, seeing, recognizing and promoting all natural areas of our country; all activity organizers are required to obtain permission from the administration for the sustainability of resources, effective management and protection, visitor safety, along with visitor guidance, and to meet visitor needs and expectations. Permission applications are made in person and by post, fax, e-mail to the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks or Provincial Directorates, and applications are concluded within 10 (ten) working days.

  • No damage can be done to rare, endemic, endangered or potentially endangered natural plant species within protected areas. These species cannot be collected, uprooted, and some parts cannot be cut, wild animal eggs cannot be collected and their nests cannot be disturbed.
  • Tours are not permitted in areas where species facing extinction are under strict protection and in regions and places where entry is inconvenient in terms of general safety.
  • During tour excursions, no activities that harm birds can be carried out (individuals cannot be disturbed, nests and chicks cannot be touched, and tissue and blood samples cannot be taken for any reason). Bird watching cannot be done and images cannot be taken during birds' breeding seasons.
  • Professional photography and video shooting cannot be done without necessary permissions from the Ministry.
  • Travel agencies that will organize hunting tours, photography and video shooting, and wild animal observation tours for foreign visitors in Turkey are obliged to obtain a hunting tourism certificate from the Ministry. (Article 15 of Law No. 4915)
  • The fees and durations to be applied in tours, photography and video shooting are determined and announced at the beginning of each year by the General Directorate.
  • Wild animals seen or encountered during tours cannot be frightened and followed. If the tour route is in the direction the animal went, an appropriate period is waited and care is taken not to approach the wild animal in a way that would frighten and disturb it, and the route is continued in a slower manner.
  • For visitor safety, the Administration makes the necessary warning and other necessary measures are taken by the activity organizers.
  • In any case, visitors are obliged to take back the waste they produce.
  • Making noise and listening to loud music during tours is prohibited.
  • Fires cannot be lit in the areas.
  • Wildlife cannot be destroyed.
  • Any interventions that cause or may cause the characteristics of protected areas to be lost or changed, and work and transactions that will cause environmental problems such as soil, water and air pollution cannot be carried out.
  • In protected areas where certified "Area Guide" is available, visitors are obliged to visit the area with area guides. However, areas outside the absolute protection zone defined in the daily use areas and plan can still be visited within the framework of the defined rules.
  • Since it is foreseen that the natural resources in the areas that need to be protected absolutely and in the absolute protection zones in the plans are left in their natural state without human influence, the use of areas and visitors' random circulation in the areas is strictly prohibited without the knowledge of the administration.
  • In protected areas, visitors cannot go outside the designated areas and routes (This is important both for the protection of resource values and visitor safety).
  • The conditions and level of use and utilization of the areas are determined by the Administration and cannot go beyond the 'carrying capacity'.
  • In planned areas, visitor management, visitor uses in the area, etc. applications are implemented within the framework of the prepared plans and plan decisions cannot be deviated from.
  • The way the tour route can be visited (vehicle, pedestrian, etc.) is defined in the long-term development plans and management plans of the areas. Vehicles other than plan decisions cannot be used. In areas that do not have a management plan, vehicles that are deemed appropriate by the administration and do not harm the environment should be used.
  • It is foreseen that services and facilities for protection, management, research, visitor information and guidance in protected areas are carried out in accordance with the plans made for these areas in a way that creates minimum negative impact and are implemented with implementation plans.
  • No activity that will affect the water regime can be carried out in wetland areas.
  • Foreign species cannot be introduced into wetlands for any purpose, left behind, and species cannot be collected from wetlands.
  • One should refrain from buying illegal products/gifts produced from endangered wildlife species.
  • Polluting the environment and nature is strictly prohibited. If detected, it is subject to penalty.

These rules are prepared in accordance with the Circular 2007/1 of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, and the penalties stipulated in the Environmental Law No. 2872 are applied to those who act contrary to the circular. In cases where the prohibited acts under the Forestry Law No. 6831 and the Fisheries Law No. 1330 are committed by travel agencies and other legal entities in places where the National Parks Law No. 2873 is applied, the penalties are doubled.

The complete implementation of the above-mentioned rules is important in terms of sustainable hunting and wildlife management and the sustainability of the resources of protected areas, effective management, protection, transfer to future generations and visitor safety, together with the monitoring and guidance of visitors coming to protected areas and the ability to define visitor needs and expectations.
